stablished in 2022, SOVWA addresses the challenges of animal health in Somalia’s agro-pastoral economy, fostering innovation and community support.
Introduction
Somali Veterinary Women Association (SWVA) was established in 2022 in Mogadishu, Somalia, to address the significant challenges faced by animals in the agro-pastoral economy during the collapse of the Central Government and civil war. Comprising a dedicated group of young lady scholars, including veterinary professionals, social workers, teachers, and farmers, SOVWA focuses on improving feeding programs, health care, training, and public awareness in the field of veterinary and animal husbandry.

Mission
The mission of SOVWA is to provide veterinary care, enhance pastoralists’ income, and contribute to national development by focusing on animal health improvement, pastoralists’ education, and environmental protection.
Vission
SOVWA envisions the development of adequate animal health services, the eradication of common diseases, and the enhancement of pasture productivity through the introduction of improved fodder seeds and the utilization of wasteland.
Primary Objectives:
Strengthen the capacity of livestock groups for the advancement of animal status.
Establish educational programs to develop the skills of pastoralists and local university students.
Create awareness about modern teaching methods and improved courses among educators.
Build health care centers with improved facilities for animals
Engage the public in combating animal diseases, promoting biosecurity, and providing vaccines for companion animals.

Geographical Scope
While presently operating actively in the Banadir region, SVWA aims to expand its activities to other regions and states of Somalia.

Collaborations
SOVWA collaborates with local universities, including Somalia National
University, Jazeera University, and Benadir University. The support from these institutions includes seminar and training hall usage, equipment utilization, and access to lectures and expertise.
Additionally, SOVWA collaborates with the Ministry of Livestock Forestry and Range, receiving support in training participation (local and international), capacity building for the organization, and assistance in addressing organizational issues.





Founding
SOVWA relies on locally mobilized resources and contributions from its members for funding. The organization is actively planning and implementing various projects to fulfil its mission.
